A Man Set Out To Troll Trump Fans With A Fake News Site. The Result Will Make Your Week

  • The stupidity of President Donald Trump’s supporters has never been in question, but cursory evidence confirming their lack of intelligence never hurts. The owner of a fake news website which propagated subjects that agreed with the ingrained ignorance of Trump’s sycophants is speaking out about how shocked they were at how gullible Trump’s supporters truly are.

James McDaniel, 28, from Costa Rica founded the satirical website “UndergroundNewsReport.com ” for the singular purpose of seeing how many lies he could publish and how many people who would greedily eat up his slop with a spoon. Some of the most-read tripe he wrote included, “Whoopi Goldberg: Navy SEAL Widow was ‘Looking for Attention’” and “Man pardoned by Obama 3 months ago arrested for murder.”

McDaniel’s website accrued over a million page views in less than two weeks and generated a tidy profit through ad revenue in the process. He found himself puzzled and disappointed at how easily individuals who have taken on the battle cry of “fake news” to anything which disagrees with them were so ready to believe nonsense :

I was surprised by how gullible the people in the Trump groups were, but as I continued to write ridiculous things they just kept getting shared and I kept drawing more viewers

The website has since ceased from publishing new articles, with the final post titled, “Satire Makes Fools of Gullible Trump Supporters ” which is a victory lap from McDaniel who offered this disgusted explanation:

It seemed that there wasn’t anything I could write that was too wild or outrageous to be believed by this particular audience.

If I wrote about CNN being fake news and connected to ISIS, readers would agree wholeheartedly with my fabricated article. If I wrote about a black liberal or Obama supposedly saying something controversial, the response was unbridled racism and hatred.

McDaniel’s venture of swimming out into the dark waters of Trump supporters, and attempting to understand what makes them tick was an admirable and masochistic endeavor. Clearly, individuals who believe such babbling nonsense do so out of a sense of confirmation bias, and they are willing to accept whatever information they agree with and disregard anything which they do not.

This entire methodology of thinking, or rather unthinking, is how the United States finds itself with President Trump in the first place. It is how the American people find themselves plagued with Republican majorities in the House of Representatives, and the Senate, along with holding a large majority of governorships as well.

Counting upon the oblivious stupidity of their constituents has long been the bread and butter of the Republican party, and it does not appear that their strategy is going to have to change anytime in the future. They scream fake news, but they love fake news — it just has to agree with them.
