Julian Assange has made a name for himself by releasing documents that have put the fear in governments and seen to him being trapped in the Ecuadorian Embassy.
CNN has now reported that their sources claim that the US is preparing charges to arrest Julian Assange.
Julian Assange’s lawyer claims that he has received no word from the DOJ as of this moment, but this is a new development.
The US has been investigating Julian Assange since 2010 when he released the first massive document batch.
Assange came into the spotlight again after he released thousands of emails from Hillary Clinton’s campaign chairman John Podesta. The Democrats and Clinton herself called for the take down of Assange but nothing ever came of it.
CIA Director Mike Pompeo has even come forward that Assange helped Chelsea Manning steal and release classified documents from the NSA, “”It’s time to call out WikiLeaks for what it really is: A non-state hostile intelligence service often abetted by state actors like Russia.”
Jeff Sessions has even recently stated in a news conference on Thursday that the arrest of Julian Assange is a “priority.”
Now what this means for WikiLeaks and Julian Assange will be revealed in the next several days but it appears that Julian Assange is being targeted for prosecution.
The US view of WikiLeaks and Assange began to change after investigators found what they believe was proof that WikiLeaks played an active role in helping Edward Snowden, a former NSA analyst, disclose a massive cache of classified documents.
Assange remains holed up in the Ecuadorian embassy in London, seeking to avoid an arrest warrant on rape charges in Sweden. In recent months, US officials had focused on the possibility that a new government in Ecuador would expel Assange and he could be arrested. But the left-leaning presidential candidate who won the recent election in the South American nation has promised to continue to harbor Assange.
